What To Expect In A Brainspotting Session

Activation

We'll start by talking through the topic you'd like to explore today. As we do, I’ll invite you to notice any emotions that come up or any sense of activation in your body. At some point, I’ll ask you to rate your level of activation on a scale from 0 to 10—where 0 means no activation and 10 means very highly activated—and to share where in your body you're feeling it.

Brainspot

There are several ways to identify your brainspot, depending on what you’re hoping to process. Once we’ve located it, you’ll simply bring mindful attention to whatever arises—whether it’s sensations in your body, thoughts, or emotions. The goal is to gently stay with whatever comes up, allowing your system to begin processing in its own way.

Process

Processing looks and feels different for everyone, and there’s no “right” way to do it. You’ll have space to engage in whatever way feels most natural to you. Often, this process is internal, so there may be stretches of silence, and that’s completely okay.

Discuss

After the brainspotting portion of the session, we’ll leave some time to check in and reflect on your experience, much like we would in a traditional talk therapy setting. Some people find it helpful to process what came up through conversation, while others may prefer to simply sit with the experience, and either way is perfectly okay.

My Role

Throughout the process, I’ll stay deeply attuned to you, tracking your experience from the outside while holding space for whatever arises. Even in moments of silence, you’ll still feel my support. I’ll check in with you periodically, and you’re always welcome to ask questions or let me know if you need anything. I’ll be right here with you every step of the way.

Structure

We can incorporate brainspotting into your sessions as often as feels right for you, alongside traditional talk therapy. Many clients find a rhythm that works for them, such as alternating between brainspotting one week and talk therapy the next. We’ll collaborate to find the approach and pacing that best supports your needs and goals.
